Dalkey Castle and Heritage Centre

Castle Street, Dalkey, Co. Dublin

Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre in the heart of the scenic heritage town of Dalkey is open all year round 6 days per week. (Closed on Tuesdays). The site is compromised of an early Christian Church & Graveyard, a fourteenth century fortified town house/castle (where the living history performances occur) and a modern Heritage Centre which interprets the site.

Be horrified at the welcome to the Castle underneath the Murder Hole!

Don’t be frightened at the Ghost – it is a friendly Ghost!

Would you like hedgehog pie for dinner?  The Archer loves it as a special treat!

Meet the Archer and test your strength on the Longbow.  Guess which arrow heads went through chainmail.  See how far he could shoot his arrows.

Examine the Tudor toilet facilities! See the Tudor equivalent of toilet roll and be disgusted!

Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre is right in the heart of Dalkey, less than five minutes from the DART train station and across the street from the Church car park.  In Dalkey Castle you will enjoy the contrast between 15th century living history with the actors from Deilg Inis Theatre Company in period costume and the interactives of 21st century technology (available in six languages).

Afterwards you can climb to the battlements for panoramic views of sea and mountains.
Enjoy the peace and tranquility of the 10th century Church and Graveyard, dedicated to an early Christian saint, Begnet.

Follow the interactive time line from early Christian through Viking, Medieval, Victorian and modern times in Dalkey. Explore the area’s literary and creative connections in the Writers’ Gallery.

Great fun day out for all the family!

Visitor Reviews

A truly wonderful experience. You are told all about the Castles history before and during a tour. Especially loved the Actors. They truly brought history to life. My 9 year old son loved every minute of the experience. Will go back with friends.
