Woodstock Gardens

Inistioge, Co. Kilkenny

One of the great gardens of Ireland, Woodstock is located in the south east of Kilkenny overlooking the picturesque River Nore. Woodstock Gardens are a wonderful place for children to run free and learn about their natural environment and also to learn about the history of the Big House and its surrounding Estate. We have over 50 acres of formal gardens and parkland dating from the Victorian period which have recently been restored.

What to do and see? Visit our walled garden and learn all about growing your own food. Here you will see an array of fruits and vegetable laid out in rows and beds; many are old Victorian varieties, not commonly see today. Explore our tree trail and see some of the most magnificent trees in Ireland. Woodstock is home to many champion trees and boasts a world renowned tree collection with exotic species from all over the world alongside native woodland rich in animal life. If you are lucky you may see a shy red squirrel and if you are quiet enough maybe even a pine marten.

Play hide and seek in our grotto and count how many nesting boxes are in the curious Dovecote and finally if you are not too tired after your visit, do not forget we have a new playground also to enjoy.

As you return from the gardens, stop at Mount Sandford Castle viewing point for a breath taking view of the wooded valley of the River Nore, overlooking lovely Inistioge and its 10 arch bridge.
