Fota House and Gardens

Fota House is a fabulous regency style great country house situated in East Cork.

It has been restored and conserved by the Irish Heritage Trust who share the magnificent surroundings by way of public guided tours from April to September inclusive.

Scurry along to our Autumn Squirrel Trail!

Celebrate the dazzling autumn colours at Fota House and join us on our Squirrel Trail this October Bank Holiday weekend.
The Fota island red squirrels are busy getting ready for the winter and are carefully storing their nuts in the Gardens. Our native red squirrels love to play hide and seek and we need your help to find them before they go to sleep for the winter!
Little ones will love scurrying round the Arboretum, spotting the squirrels and learning all about the trees they like best. This is a fun, self-guided trail for all the family with no need to pre-book. Just come along from Saturday 27th to Monday 29th October between 10am and 3.30pm to the Welcome Desk on Fota House and pick up your map.

Once you’ve found all the squirrels and solved the clues, you can come back to the House to pick up your treat! Bakestone café will be open for the weekend, serving their usual delicious fare – creamy hot chocolates, wonderful cakes and soups to warm you up after your ramble!
We could have sunshine or showers, so wear your wellies and dress up warm! No squirrels have been harmed in the creation of this event – bonus points for spying an ACTUAL, live squirrel among the tree tops! Thank you – your ticket helps keep Fota open for everyone to enjoy, and goes directly to the continued conservation and restoration of the property.

The Arboretum at Fota House is cared for by our friends in the OPW.

Visitors can discover fascinating insights into the contrasting lives of the masters of a former time and their servants in the original surroundings that shaped their worlds.

When exploring the House a visit to or guided tour of our award winning Victorian Frameyard Garden is a must.

Fota House hosts a range of monthly cultural events, there is always something to do at Fota!

Our calendar of events includes seasonal offerings for families at Easter, Halloween and Christmas, along with a host of exciting activties during the summer for National Heritage week, outdoor theatre and programmes in the Gardens.

The Cafe at Fota House enjoys a reputation for serving scrumptious home baking and delicious meals: these are served in the atmospheric Billiard Room.

During the summer, you can dine al fresco and enjoy the views over Fota’s parklands. The choice of food available is varied and dishes are prepared on a daily basis, often using organic produce from Fota’s kitchen garden. Our menu always includes vegetarian and gluten free dishes.
