National Reptile Zoo

Ever wondered what a snake really feels like? Or how much an alligator eats?

With over 120 animals and 50 different species on display, The National Reptile Zoo is Irelands only dedicated reptile zoo. Licensed by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.

Opened on March 17th, 2006 (against St. Patricks wishes!), The National Reptile Zoo is an indoor facility displaying various species or snakes, lizards, crocodiles, frogs and spiders.

Open all year round and suitable for individuals, families or groups. No need to book for individuals or families. It is our policy to allow interaction with some of our friendlier species.

Reptile offer just for schools!

As part of our Conservation through education programme here at The National Reptile Zoo, we spend lots of time visiting schools around the country with some of our friendly and fun reptiles. We spend the whole day telling the children all about reptiles and their place in the wild and the best part is, they even get to hold them!

Each year, schools seem to have a smaller and smaller budget available for these kinds of activities. We have come up with a solution to allow schools with all types of budgets to experience this unique and interesting way to learn about reptiles.

They are offering schools a voucher for a birthday party, or a one year family membership pass worth €65.

The idea is that in order to raise funds to have the The National Reptile Zoo Education Team in their school, they hold a raffle with our voucher being the main prize.

They feel that this is an innovative way to allow schools to continue to experience our Educational programme with little to no cost!

As part of our "Conservation through Education" programme, The National Reptile Zoo has a mobile demonstration team which can be brought to a suitable location of your choice. Ideal for schools, colleges, scout troops, corporate events, festivals, birthdays etc. Contact us for more details.

Today my and my fiancee visited the reptile village. We had a fantastic time, the staff were friendly, enthusiastic and a great source of info on the animals We got to hold a boa constrictor, a bearded dragon and a tarantula, we also were allowed into the tortoise and iguana encolsure. Excellent facilities for kids inc. a soft play area, colouring, there is an indoor picnic area so you can bring a packed lunch. Great day out!!!”

My family visited the reptile village today and they had a lovely time. There was a great selection of reptiles and my daughter found the profile cards about each one easy to understand and of course informative. The highlight for my daughter was to have the snake around her neck, for me it had to be holding the Tarantula and my younger son loved the playarea. My partner found the opportunity to watch the alligators being fed fasinating. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The only bad thing I have to say was that the bathrooms needed a good clean otherwise a great day.”
